“May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder. ” ― John O'Donohue

Greetings from Willows

The start of 2019 has been busy for us as the New Year always brings an influx of referrals. We have noticed this trend over many years and it seems that often the break form routine somehow highlights the difficulties that people face and the opportunity to take back some control encourages people to contact us and enquire about counselling.

This is Willows’ calling - to offer counsel to those in need of help- and we count it a privilege to be able to respond to this need. In an attempt not to be overwhelmed by the ongoing need we are now able to offer twelve weeks dedicated to helping clients learn to better manage overwhelming emotions as well as our usual counselling service. Gilly has been training a number of our counsellors to offer this and the feedback from counsellors and clients is very encouraging.

Ron and Steve are working hard on our new website which we will let you know about as soon as it is live. We intend for it to tell the Willows story, give more information on who we are and what we do as well as all our training and Friends of Willows events.

Training (held at The Willows Centre in Swindon)

  • Counsellor training - we begin another year with a comprehensive offering of counsellor training and CPD. Our Level 3 and Level 4 Diploma courses which started in Sept 2018 have gotten off to a great start and we extend a warm welcome to all of our new students.

  • Our Introduction to Pastoral Counselling - Level 2 course started again on Monday 4th March, as usual running for 10 weeks in term time. This is a great course for anyone working in a helping or supportive capacity in any sector, as well as those looking to begin the journey towards becoming a qualified counsellor. It will next run in October this year. Please contact our Training Manager, training@willowscounselling.org.uk.

  • Our Annual day Conference on May 13th is titled ‘Honouring Client Resistance - A Compassionate Perspective on Working with Low Motivation and Shame’ with the fabulous Kathy Steele. Details and booking at www.willowstraining.org/tickets.

  • CPD workshops (open to all; held the Harnhill Centre near Cirencester, book through them by calling 01285 850283

  • Sat 9th March - 'Personal Journeying: Exploring working more deeply in our personal and professional work with others' with Philippa Dryland and Mike Fisher (5 hours CPD - £45in cluding lunch)

  • Sat 11th May - ‘Endings: Life, Loss and Letting go’ with Liz Day (5 hours CPD - £45 including lunch)

Friends of Willows

It would be lovely if you could join us at the upcoming events organised by Friends of Willows. These are fun, interesting and lovely social times as well as a much appreciated fundraiser for Willows to subsidise client donations.

  • Geoff Walters & Encore - Saturday 9th March at 7.30pm, St. Johns Church Haydon Wick. Tickets are £6 each available from Willows

  • We are Bag Packing at Asda West Swindon on Saturday 30th March. We would love some help or come along and do your shopping and encourage us.

  • After the success of our amazing 1980s night last year we have bowed to public demand and have arranged a 70s Night on Friday 5th April at the Moonrakers. Tickets are £10 and available from Willows.

We hope this has given you a little flavour of what is going on for Willows at the moment.

As always we value your financial support and for those of you who pray we would really appreciate your prayers for our students and new placements, all our counsellors,

Blessings
