Overview

An exploration of boundaries in our personal and professional relationships

About the course:

“Walls keep everyone out; boundaries teach them where the door is” (Mark Groves)

This day will explore our personal relationship with boundaries and the power afforded to ourselves or others in the pursuit of self-protection.

Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on what is meant by the term ‘boundaries’ and to consider the boundaries we hold. We will explore how comfortable we are with the idea of boundaries and how we experience them in our personal relationships and in the therapeutic space.

During the day there will be both theoretical input (drawing on the work of authors such as Donald Winnicott and Pat Ogden) as well as opportunities for discussion and experiential work to help deepen understanding and awareness of this important topic.

About the speaker:

Lou Webb is an experienced psychotherapist with an MA in Psychotherapy and a BSc in Psychology. She works in private practice with adults and young people, as well as being a tutor on Willows Level 4 Diploma course. She has particular interest and experience in trauma, birth trauma, childhood abuse and self-harm. Lou also has a passion for eco-therapy and integrating the natural world into the therapeutic space.

Before training as a psychotherapist, Lou worked at Bristol College and Bath University developing support programmes for young people often with difficult and adverse experiences. She has also worked with the National Childbirth Trust educating and supporting families before and during their births, including with vulnerable mothers who have experienced trauma and abuse in childhood. It was through this immersion in holistic not diagnostic care that Lou knew she wanted to retrain in psychotherapy.
