Training with Willows

Willows has proudly been educating counsellors for over 30 years. Uniquely, our training takes place within the vibrancy of a counselling agency environment where students gain ‘real world’ experience and insights, and benefit from Willows’s vast knowledge of issues clients bring to counselling. At Willows, we teach beyond the curriculum at all course levels so that students are suitably prepared and equipped to move forward to the next training level, and ultimately upon qualifying, are ready and able to offer an effective and ethical counselling service to their clients.

Our Courses

The Willows Integrative Model

An Integrative model of counselling is a combined approach to therapy that brings together different elements and techniques from specific theoretical models. We believe that all clients are unique, and an integrative model enables the therapeutic work to be tailored more specifically to the individual needs of each client. The teaching on our core counsellor training courses is based on the Willows integrative model approach, key elements of the model are detailed here…

  • Is person-centred at it’s core.
  • Draws on psychodynamic insights.
  • Uses both cognitive-behavioural and creative methods.
  • Informed by developmental and attachment theory.
  • Holds a holistic view of human functioning.
  • Recognises a transpersonal world-view.

Teaching and shaping future therapists

Level 2 exceeded all my expectations. Willows is such a warm and welcoming environment, and the course tutors were extremely knowledgeable and approachable. The things I learnt have been so valuable in both my personal and professional life.

Level 2 Student

Teaching at Willows is both an honour and a privilege. As a teaching team, we share a collective belief in quality training that offers encouragement, appropriate challenge and a desire to work at depth in order to support students at all levels to explore and embrace the fullness of who they are. I believe that modelling my own authenticity and vulnerability is one of the greatest gifts I can offer my students.

Willows Tutor

The Level 4 Diploma course at Willows has allowed me to continue my counselling journey with confidence and a strong belief that I have gained firm foundations with which to work with a variety of clients. I experienced the content of the course as wide ranging and thorough. My learning was supported my confident and competent tutors, and I have formed relationship with my peers which I believe will last a lifetime.

Student

Willows is a special place, every tutor is fully committed to the growth, success and personal development of each and every student. We all have a common goal: to train competent, ethical and resilient counsellors. This requires more than just staff support, it requires tutors to teach from their hearts, to bring their own experience, values and sometimes vulnerabilities into the training room to offer students a truly honest experience. Consequently, students gain a richness of learning from this which is why I teach at Willows; we really care about what we do and the impact it has.

Willows Tutor

I attended Willows postgraduate Trauma Counselling course and without doubt, it has been the most significant part of my learning journey so far. From both a personal and professional perspective, my learning has been considerably enriched as a result of the 12 months spent studying with Willows. The content of the course was both fascinating and stretching in equal measures!

Yes! Most students complete their counselling training whilst working in a variety in a variety of roles in other fields. Students’ who progress through the higher levels of counsellor training tend to find that full time work alongside counsellor training can be difficult to manage, especially when completing the Level 4 diploma course and the associated student placement.
